Life
Lab Garden
Our Life Lab Garden is growing by leaps and
bounds. The students have prepared the soil in the planting beds
and observed soil samples to learn about sand, silt, and clay. The
classes have been planting flower seeds, tulip and daffodil bulbs,
and a variety of herbs. They planted many vegetables including
carrots, radishes, broccoli, lettuce, and peas.
The Life Lab Garden program is very grateful for support from our
wonderful parent volunteers, Boy Scouts, and the PTA. Boy Scout
Troop 454 spent two hours on a recent Saturday to move yards of
dirt, dig holes, and install gopher screening. The PTA's grant
allows us to continue refurbishing the garden and purchase materials
and supplies.
We purchased a new garden curriculum with weekly lessons that follow
the seasonal changes in the garden. In coming weeks the students
will be learning about garden ecosystems and worms. At Open House
in the spring, our students will operate a Farmers Market table with
their own produce, herbs, and cut flowers from the school garden,
and garden-related crafts.
